To be a good fit for the Senior Payroll Analyst opportunity, you will have:
  • A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience. Quick question for you - click here
  • 10+ years of related experience, including large or mid-level companies.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state wage and hour and tax reporting laws. We'll also consider single-state candidates with very strong knowledge of California payroll and tax reporting laws.
  • Leadership skills; experience as a team lead or supervisor is a plus.
  • Familiarity with calculation of income in connection with disqualifying dispositions, incentive stock options, restricted stock options and non-qualifying stock options for W-2 year-end reporting.
  • Excellent knowledge of web-based payroll and timekeeping systems, preferably Ultipro.
  • Knowledge of reporting systems and intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.), along with top-notch report-writing skills.
  • The ability to develop and document payroll processes and procedures.
Just as important will be the following competencies and characteristics:
  • Robust attention to detail and the ability to understand and meet expectations.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment working under little to no supervision.
  • A track record of analyzing problems and implementing successful solutions, including thinking outside the box.
  • A high level of integrity and confidentiality in addition to strong communication skills.
Top candidates also will have:
  • Knowledge of prevailing wage requirements, payments and documentation.
  • Experience with tax reporting.
  • Net-to-gross knowledge. Public company experience, ideally including knowledge of SOX.

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will join a team that also includes a Payroll Analyst. We're looking for a professional who is highly motivated to ensure timely and accurate payroll processing, garnishment compliance and payroll tax filing. This will include identifying, analyzing and resolving process and system-related problems, developing root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions. We provide reports to several different business units, so you'll need to create different configurations.

More specifically, you will:
  • Research ongoing public works projects and payment requirements for prevailing wage work, including completion and filing of weekly certified payroll reports to outside entities. Quick question for you - click here
  • Configure all core data elements comprising the current timekeeping system, including downloading data at the end of each pay period to perform payroll processing.
  • Research reporting requirements for the Finance department and generate and analyze biweekly, monthly, quarterly and annual payroll reports utilizing the current payroll system.
  • Compile complex ad hoc reports for the executive team, managers and other requesting departments as needed.
  • Assume responsibility for quarterly tax filings and year-end W-2s from current payroll system, including making adjustments to earnings and taxes as necessary.
  • Analyze and prepare monthly and annual reports of company-paid fuel usage for W-2 reporting, including communications to employees.
  • Perform research on payroll related issues, including, but not limited to, tax withholding, overtime, 401(k) deferrals, loans, LOAs, garnishments and workers compensation for various states.
  • Keep abreast of current SOX controls and compile audit data for auditors. Assist with audits, month-end closing and special projects as assigned.
  • Preform some data input of payroll-related items into current payroll and timekeeping systems.
  • Perform routine training of other payroll team members and company employees for payroll-related items during onboarding.
  • Handle other duties as assigned.
To excel in this role, you will remain flexible and willing (like the rest of the team) to wear multiple hats. There is always a lot going on, so multitasking skills will be important. We'll also look to you to provide excellent customer service to your internal contacts, including providing sharp, insightful reports. In general, we are business casual, but there will be times when you'll need to wear business attire.
