The Role

You’ll report to the General Manager, lead a team of four engineers, and guide a team CAD drafters who report to a lead. We all wear multiple hats, and you’ll serve as an essential leader and hands-on Engineer. Depending upon the project, you could partner with the Clean Energy Sales team on LNG or CNG fueling stations, or work directly with Clean Energy Cryogenics customers on commercial projects. You will also work closely with our sister company in Vancouver, British Columbia, Clean Energy Compression, formally IMW, as well as our Director of Engineering in Minnesota, who has been managing the team remotely.

  • Assist in preparing and maintaining departmental documentation.
In the area of management, you will:
  • Motivate and lead your team in all of the above.
  • Support and develop your direct reports (LNG Engineers).
  • Work with senior leaders on projects, direction and strategy.

What's in It for You

Intriguing challenges
Though we've already said it, it's worth repeating here: you will contribute to a variety of projects. We're pursuing innovative solutions and models as we partner with Clean Energy to build a nationwide infrastructure that will bring the advantages of natural gas fuels to all aspects of the transportation industry, as well as custom solutions directly to Clean Energy Cryogenics clients.

Cutting-edge projects
We're venturing into new and exciting areas, such as rail, tinder cars and ship transport. You will not only work in these areas, you will have the opportunity to influence our direction through your own ideas and impact on the RFP process.

Career options
This position can be a challenging and rewarding one for years to come; at the same time, if you are interested in career advancement, we anticipate opportunities for proven performers as we grow. For example, depending on your ambition and performance, you might pursue a management position within Clean Energy Cryogenics, Clean Energy or other Clean Energy companies.

Skills that are in demand
As already noted, we’re working on ground-breaking LNG projects and though you’re already a talented and experienced engineer, you’re bound to add new skills and technologies and become an expert in an industry that is booming and will continue to grow. This is an opportunity to fine-tune your career for the future.

Proven strong leadership You will join a team of accomplished, seasoned professionals at Clean Energy, led by Andrew Littlefair. Mr. Littlefair served as President of Pickens Fuel Corp (PFC), predecessor company of Clean Energy, which he co-founded in 1997 with Boone Pickens and was Staff Assistant to then President Ronald Reagan in the Office of Presidential Advance from 1983 to 1987. Our executive team's profiles can be viewed at CleanEnergyFuels.com.

Green standard for sustainability You probably already knew that natural gas burns much more cleanly than gasoline and diesel, producing significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions. But did you also know that natural gas is increasingly renewable, using biomethane reclaimed from landfill via waste-to-energy solutions? Clean Energy is helping companies and public organizations meet aggressive environmental goals.

Great place to live and work
If you're not already familiar with Evanston, Wyoming, it is the county seat of Uinta County, and home to some 12,000 residents who enjoy the lifestyle you can only find in a small town community. We'll be honest, though: Southwest Wyoming isn't for everyone. At more than 6700 feet above sea level, it's high, dry desert. Winters are cold and we do get snow, but not the deep snowdrifts you might be picturing. Of course, top rated skiing is only a couple of hours away in Utah, such as Park City and Deer Valley. In fact, Wyoming is known for diverse outdoor recreation amenities. The people are friendly and the cost of living is well below the national average . . . Wyoming has no state income tax, for example. For more information and images, please visit the Evanston Chamber of Commerce. Clicking on this link will open a new browser window, so be sure to come back and submit your resume!

Competitive compensation
In addition to a competitive wage, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental and other insurances, a 401(k) plan with discretionary company match, paid time off and more.

Keys to Success

While you will spend a good deal of time directly working as an engineer, your primary mission is to drive team and project success from design through manufacturing. Project movement will be a determining factor to your success. This is a solid team, but it needs a leader – someone who is task-oriented and driven by deadlines…a problem-solver who can identify problems and devise solutions in order to keep each project on task. While we’re not looking for a leader who micromanages or has an aggressive style, we are looking for someone who is deeply involved, has high expectations and the ability to motivate the team and help them excel.

Beyond management, you will take a proactive approach to getting up to speed quickly on our technologies and processes, and stay open to learning on an ongoing basis. You'll also leverage strong interpersonal and influencing skills whether working with customers, contractors, internal team members, or corporate leadership. You will work with diverse personalities, sometimes explaining complicated technology in terms that can be easily understood by those who are not engineers.

As we continue to grow and evolve you should remain flexible and be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity. You won't have SOPs for every situation and should be willing to not just follow a roadmap, but to build it yourself as needed. We're looking for a professional who is excited about the future of energy technologies and shares our commitment to improving environmental quality and supporting America's -- and the world's -- energy future.
