Autonomous Role at Leader in Growing Green Alternative Fuel Industry

This is your opportunity to work as a self-directed Field Service Technician in the rapidly emerging, cutting-edge, green fuel industry. You will support multiple compressed natural gas (CNG) and liquid natural gas (LNG) fueling stations throughout Arizona, and provide support throughout the Western Region as needed for training and repairs. The Requirements

To meet the basic requirements for this role you must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. The ideal candidate for this role will have outstanding mechanical skills and experience, and strong electrical skills/aptitude. At a minimum you will need:
  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 5+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Well-developed electrical and mechanical abilities and a strong understanding of how things work and operate together in a process flow environment.
  • Modern automotive or diesel repair experience with expertise in mechanical and on board electrical diagnostic systems is a plus.
  • The practiced skill of diagnosing and repairing mechanical problems. Experience with high pressure gas/air systems is a plus.
  • The demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair electrical problems such as current overloads, ground faults, short circuits, open circuits and faulty relay logic and ability to read and understand electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • The skill to monitor, check and correct electrical and mechanical issues such as, but not limited to: phase imbalances, current draw, low voltage power supplies, pressure transmitters, relay logic programmable logic control operation, mechanical failures of pumps, valves, piping, actuators, motors, contactors, etc.
  • Experience with cryogenics is a plus.
  • A commitment to working safely with high pressure gases and electrical components.
  • Your own tools, a well-developed professional technician-style set 1 ½" and less equipped to work on a combination of mechanical and electrical equipment. In addition to these requirements, schedule flexibility is required. You'll need to be based in the greater Phoenix area, but you will support about 18 stations throughout Arizona. Most are in the Phoenix/Tempe/Mesa area, but there are also stations in Winslow, Grand Canyon National Park and other locations. You'll need to be willing to put in a significant amount of driving time, and overnight travel will be required on occasion. As part of a rotation, you will be on call every fourth week and you'll need to be available 24 hours during that time.

While you'll spend eight to ten weeks training on day shifts, once you're on your own you will work the night shift, typically 6 pm to 2:30 am. However, you may be called out at any time to respond to issues that arise. In addition, you will help cover Field Service Maintenance Mechanics in neighboring territories when they take time off. For training you will travel to Denver for a week at a time. If a major repair or rebuild comes up, you may travel to that site to learn from our most senior Technicians.

The Role

In this role you will inspect, maintain and repair the fueling equipment and ensure an aesthetically pleasing appearance for multiple stations in the state. The stations are diverse, including LNG, CNG, and L/CNG facilities. Some are private dedicated stations supporting local transit or solid waste collection fleets. A few are public, and the Winslow station is part of America's Natural Gas Highway (ANGH), a coast-to-coast and border-to-border network supporting the trucking industry. To serve as the mechanical/maintenance expert for these stations, you will need a broad skill set coming in the door. We'll add to that skill set by providing outstanding training.

Each shift you will visit one or more sites to provide equipment and control maintenance and repair, and create positive customer relations that promote Clean Energy. You'll follow a monthly rotation to ensure coverage, and also respond to any issues that arise. These will be your stations to monitor and you will take responsibility for their overall care, with the lion's share of your duties being mechanical, electrical and controls maintenance. Preventative maintenance will include ensuring safety interlocks for shut-down systems are working properly, automatic rebuilding of compressors after 5000 hours of use, disassembling and assembling components for cleaning and repair, working on pumps and cryogenic tanks, painting and cleaning the station, and more.

Specifically you will:
  • Conduct periodic inspections of fueling locations and equipment to determine that proper and normal operating conditions are being met.
  • Check and record operational data such as fluid levels, inter-stage temperatures and pressures, compare to trends and have the ability to make corrections as needed.
  • Install, remove and modify fueling locations and equipment.
  • Maintain all fueling related equipment and structures in accordance with manufactures and Clean Energy guidelines.
  • Clean and maintain fueling locations by picking up trash, emptying trash cans and dumpsters, hand cleaning and polishing fueling equipment, and painting and maintaining the canopy, lot, islands, and surrounding landscaping in and outside of enclosures.
  • Repair, replace, and adjust malfunctioning equipment to restore proper operating condition specified in regulations and repair manuals.
  • Inspect, maintain, adjust, repair or replace electrical equipment including electrical wiring, conduit, panels, switch gear, switches, gauges, transducers, solenoids, gas dryers, actuators, motors, meters and controls for safe and proper operating condition.
