The Requirements
To meet the basic qualifications for the role of Associate Project Engineer, you must have:- A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Controls or a related field
- Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship
- 2+ years of related experience, preferably in NGV facility modification, HVAC building design and remodeling, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (i.e. an MS and a year of experience) Quick question for you - click here
- A relevant master's degree preferred
- Experience providing technical/engineering sales support, ideally with mechanical ventilation and heating or electrical power and controls
- Familiarity with mechanical, civil and electrical engineering aspects
- The ability to read and interpret engineering plans
- Very strong computer skills including ability in AutoCAD, CADWorx and MS Office Suite applications (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project)
- An acceptable or insurable driving record
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 20% of the time
- A relevant master's degree is an advantage
- Experience working with online takeoff plans
- Strengths in research and design a plus

The Role
Your MissionReporting to the Director, Facilities Modification Services, as Associate Project Engineer, your high-reaching mission will be to support the sale of natural gas, natural gas vehicles, and modification services for natural gas vehicle (NGV) repair and garage facilities.
Executing Your Role
You will join a newer and growing team of six, including your supervisor, a Business Development Manager, and varying levels of Project Engineers (Associate to Senior). As Associate Project Engineer, you will provide support to our customers and the Sales team, specifically in the design, engineering, consulting and controlling of project elements. You will follow projects from cradle to grave, participating in a multitude of tasks from site investigation and other research, to plan creation, gaining customer buy-in, working with subcontractors, completing and managing required documentation and much more. Much of your work will be done at our Newport Beach headquarters, however, you will also travel to sites, primarily for initial site investigation, approximately 20% of the time. You will have several projects under way at any one time.
Specifically, and initially under direction, you will:
- Develop project objectives by reviewing and gathering field information, plans and conferring with management
- Design and oversee development of design for NGV repair and garage facility modifications using engineering concepts and principles, to ensure compliance with applicable codes
- Provide construction services management for assigned facility modification projects
- Modify engineering drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established safety codes, building codes, specifications, and standards.
- Prepare code analysis and plan check responses and/or negotiate with the authority having jurisdiction in favor of proposed projects
- Transform field information to conceptual drawings into construction documents, and prepare facility modification layouts and detailed drawings and schematics
- Conceptualize the feasibility of modifying the NGV facility considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors
- Draft a project schedule by studying each individual project plan and specifications, and calculating time requirements
- Research and apply code requirements and design procedures manuals
- Administer multiple simultaneous projects in various stages of design and construction
- Review engineering designs for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements and related specifications
- Conduct quality assurance/quality control of all documents and reports, verifying accuracy of data, information, and calculations
- Develop and maintain project budgets from project inception through completion
- Track and report project progression with management software and spreadsheets
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules and regulations
- Write engineering technical analysis or reports to support sales or facility evaluation
