There will be an orientation, but expect to be called upon to work on tasks your very first day. You will have opportunities to improve the way your work is done and to help us to develop strategies to deliver what's needed to our internal customers.

You will be learning something new every day; change is the norm around here. We are company that is continually changing and evolving.  If that makes you nervous, this might not be the role for you. If continuous learning excites you, then please continue to read.

WHO YOU’LL BE WORKING WITH

Located at our corporate headquarters in Newport Beach, CA you will report to the VP of Sales Operations. His style, developed over many years of management and learning from successes and mistakes, is one of coaching/mentoring. He’s an ideal leader if you are not yet a seasoned professional but eager to learn.  He prefers to set expectations and let people rise to them. Always ready to support, he will nevertheless wait for you to raise your hand before he jumps in to help.

Also reporting to the VP is a small team consisting of two other Sales Analysts, one of whom is at the senior level.

Outside of your immediate department, you will interact with Senior Analysts from the Sales group, members of the Legal department, the LNG (liquefied natural gas) Supply group and a variety of Vice Presidents across headquarters.

WHAT YOU'LL BE WORKING ON

You will work on multiple projects, few of which are related to each other. Fortunately for you, your predecessor left behind a comprehensive binder to which you can refer. Here is the approximate breakdown of the various hats you will wear and the time involved:

REAL ESTATE50% of your time
  • Property Tracking - You will monitor, track and report on our Real Estate (RE) and related contracts.
  • Legal Report - This has to do with what we’re working on in conjunction with Legal and includes pre-contract type work or amendments to existing contracts where we’re extending or upgrading the project.
  • Other RE related reports as needed.
Mondays and Fridays will typically be your busiest days for Real Estate related reports.

AUTHORIZATION FOR STATION OPENING PROCESS  - 15% of your time
We coordinate the opening of our stations with our customer's equipment arrivals. This involves communicating with multiple departments to assure new stations have an optimal load upon opening.

PRICING & PRICING REQUESTS 25%
You will receive pricing requests from the reps and we have a 48-hour turnaround commitment to respond.

The balance of your time will be spent on other areas that aren’t quite as time-consuming including:

TAXES
You will interface with our Tax department to make sure that our tax table, with federal, state and local taxes, is kept up to date.

DEMO TRUCK PROGRAM
We have three demo trucks (about to go to four) that we allow prospective customers use to feel the similarities between diesel and natural gas trucks. You will coordinate the required paperwork with the fleet operator and schedule the demos in way that keeps the vehicles in use.

Additionally, you will routinely be called on to design and provide ad hoc reports, weekly revenue reports and financial modeling reports. You will also develop presentations and other written material for the sales team, related to our services and targeted toward small, medium and large groups. Quick question for you - click here

Why Clean Energy

An opportunity to help change the world -- we are extremely passionate about the company and what we are doing together. We are making this a better planet for our children and our grandchildren. You will find that everyone here is passionate about the work.

Intriguing challenges -- you'll wear a variety or hats and work on a wide diversity of reports and projects. Ours is a fast-moving, responsive environment that will keep you on your toes, but one in which you'll learn and further develop your skills.

Ideal team, professional growth opportunities -- you'll work with a strong team, including other Sales Analysts, and you will routinely interface with many other departments.

Autonomy and support -- your supervisor believes strongly in providing employees the room they need to excel. He'll expect that you'll take ownership of your projects, but also reach out if help is needed. You'll have his and the support of your fellow analysts.

Stability and career options -- we're growing rapidly and need talented people. Our growth also brings opportunity. Prove yourself a star and there are a number of career paths you could take. Having said that, there is much to learn in this position and it is not one that will come with a quick promotion. It will, however, put you in an excellent position to build a strong knowledge and skills base that will support a long and strong career with us. Future growth could include promotions to a Senior or Sales Analyst or a move to a completely different function like Finance or Sales.

Strong growth -- Clean Energy has the right solutions at the right time, as more and more organizations are exploring alternative fuel vehicles and solutions. We are growing strong, and Technical Support plays a key role in ensuring station up-time while helping keep costs low.

Green standard for sustainability -- you probably already knew that natural gas burns much more cleanly than gasoline and diesel, producing significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions. But did you also know that natural gas is increasingly renewable, using biomethane reclaimed from landfill via waste-to-energy solutions? Clean Energy is helping companies and public organizations meet aggressive environmental goals.

Proven strong leadership -- you will join a team of accomplished, seasoned professionals at Clean Energy, led by Andrew Littlefair. Mr. Littlefair served as President of Pickens Fuel Corp (PFC), predecessor company of Clean Energy, which he co-founded in 1997 with Boone Pickens. Mr. Littlefair was Staff Assistant to then President Ronald Reagan in the Office of Presidential Advance from 1983 to 1987. Our executive team's profiles can be viewed at CleanEnergyFuels.com.

Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and discretionary bonus, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes all you would expect plus some pleasant surprises, such as a discretionary match on our 401(k) plan.

Keys to Success

At the top of the list of what it takes to succeed as an Associate Sales Analyst for us is flexibility. As we evolve, so will your role and just about the time you're getting comfortable, there will be something new to learn. That puts "a voracious appetite for learning" at the top of the list, as well. Other competencies that will ensure your success include:
  • An ability to anticipate: initially you won't have the tribal knowledge that is required for this, but we will look to you to learn your role so well that you will ultimately be able to anticipate what's next, or what should be next and take action.
  • Cause-and-effect thinking: if you are a master at Excel you likely already have this. Just as you must anticipate what gets impacted when you change a spreadsheet formula, we will expect you to apply that same thinking to your work. "If I change this, what else or who else does it impact?"
  • Being a team player: you will routinely interact with stakeholders inside and outside your immediate department and they will depend on you and your work and vice-versa. We are an extended team and when we work together, we produce incredible results that impact the world.
  • Initiative: if you are confident and competent enough to perform on your own (while knowing when to ask for support), you will do well and will, in return, be mentored and groomed to excel.
  • A high degree of professionalism: ours is the opposite of a "jeans and t-shirt" environment. We will look to you to represent our team well and you will have opportunities to interact with senior leaders in the company, including the President and COO, to share what you're working on.
  • Meeting your key deliverables: you will always have competing priorities and we will look to you to manage your time and work so that you consistently achieve your goals.
This is a company that is worth working hard for and we will be as devoted to your success as you are.  Applying the keys above will go a long way toward supporting your success.
