Financial Analyst
Canada CECC HQChilliwack
The Financial Analyst works as part of the Finance department and is responsible for reviewing, analyzing and communicating CEC’s financial results at the department and subsidiary level to support accurate and timely financial reporting and budgeting. The Financial Analyst is also responsible for analysis of job profit and cost reports for on-going and closed jobs.
Duties & Responsibilities
Cost Analyst
- Close outstanding work orders to the project.
- Create and issue job profit/cost reports for all ongoing and closed projects.
- Perform labour analysis, variances and budgets.
- Collect and analyze cost detail for reporting against budgeted including quoted amounts, provide feedback regarding differences, and manage job costing activities.
- Update current costs for quotation purposes including reviewing current price list.
- Review new part introduction, calculate pricing and activate pricing in the Enterprise Resource Planning system.
- Work closely with all departments for development of cost standards.
- Liaise with other departments as needed for quote generation.
- Liaise with the procurement team to closely monitor cost fluctuations and the impact to gross margins.
- Determine cost of materials/labour for cancelled projects.
- Provide cost estimations and analysis for custom projects, including Bills of Materials, and review for variances.
- Provide input to engineering and operations for cost reduction.
- Responsible for ensuring estimated costs (budgets) are entered in fixed priced projects in the Enterprise Resource Planning system.
- Responsible for the review of closed work orders on a weekly basis for accurate cost issuance.
- Assist in the development of daily and weekly throughput indicators.
- Prepare ad hoc costing reports for team leads and senior management when requested.
- Review account totals related to project assets and expenses.
- Investigate project variances and submit variance reports to management.
- Compile information for internal and external auditors, as required.
Financial Analyst
- Prepare budgets and forecasts, including monthly/quarterly forecasts, mid-year forecasts, and annual budgets.
- Perform monthly variances analysis of actual to budgets results for monthly deliverables to management.
- Apply strong analytical skills to understand the root cause of variances.
- Monitor pricing and margin variances on a daily basis, investigate discrepancies and provide analytical support to the Controller.
- Prepare and design ancillary business/financial models and other special projects as needed.
- Ensure financial processes and reports meet corporate and industry guidelines.
- Analyze monthly department spending and communicate trends with management.
- Work with department heads to manage spending, identify problem areas and support financial aspects of new corporate projects.
- Continuously improve, automate and simplify processes to help drive better decision-making.
- Identify areas for improvement in processing or policies to ensure effectiveness and efficiencies.
- Create internal management reports for monthly, quarterly and yearly financial results and prepare commentaries for management.
- Prepare monthly reports and variance analyses for management review, participates in short- and long-range financial planning and forecasting, and prepares ad-hoc financial analyses and reports.
- Support the implementation of financial reporting and planning systems.
- Assist in the drafting of SEC reports, prepare monthly statement of cash flows, other financial reports, and presentations for management.

- Know and understand workplace health and safety rights and responsibilities.
- Follow safe work procedures and act safely in the workplace at all times.
- Maintain a safe working environment within the department and on each job.

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business or a related field with emphasis in Finance and Accounting preferred.
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
Certifications
- Obtained or working towards a CGA or CMA designation or equivalent experience.
