In this newly-created role you will have the opportunity to make an impact in all areas of our organization as you take the lead on designing, implementing and administering our SharePoint, intranet and reporting environments. Quick question for you - click here This is not a complete "whiteboard erase" scenario, but there's definitely plenty of white space in which you can make your mark. As a small but fast-growing company, the solutions you create will represent a quantum leap in making our employees' work easier.

Clean Energy is the leading provider of natural gas fuel for transportation in North America. With experience and expertise built over more than a decade, we are committed to helping our customers -- companies operating all kinds of fleets from big rigs to public transit to taxis to solid waste trucks -- gain the measurable advantages of natural gas fueling. We have more than 700 employees globally, we distribute products globally, and our revenues in 2010 were up 39% over 2009.

The Requirements

To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have:
  • At least three years of experience developing in SharePoint, including establishing requirements, mapping business process flows, developing solutions and driving implementation.
  • Hands-on familiarity with SharePoint 2010, including administration and security.
  • A thorough understanding of SharePoint Developer and related visual tools.
  • Familiarity with MS Office, Windows OS, IIS, Apache and PHP.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse personalities in multiple departments. Quick question for you - click here
  • Strong communication skills, including a proven ability to:
    • Listen to users and probe for information.
    • Keep stakeholders informed and in the loop.
  • A solid work ethic and self-motivation.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business or other relevant field; we also will consider non-degreed candidates with significant, relevant experience.
  • Microsoft Professional Developer certification is a plus.
We're looking for a candidate with experience with most of the following:
  • JavaScript, HTML, DHTML, XML, CSS.
  • Object oriented technologies, MS web technologies (.NET framework 2.0 - 3.5, Visual Studio Team System, ASP.NET, C#/VB), AJAX, and database technologies (SQL Server).
You also will need to be willing and able to travel occasionally, in the US and possibly Canada, although we anticipate you will travel less than 10% of the time.

The Role

Note: this description is intended to give you a general overview of the position and is not an exhaustive listing of duties and responsibilities.

Reporting to the Business Applications Manager, you will join a team that also includes a Business Analyst, Business Intelligence Manager and Report Developer. You'll have some support from the Analyst (although we'll also look to you to interface directly with users to get a deep understanding of their needs) and coordinate tie-in with the BI Manager and Report Developer. We are a total Microsoft shop and our emphasis is more on out-of-the-box solutions than on custom development.

We've had consultants lay the groundwork for our SharePoint environment, which currently has a few internal and external sites. You'll essentially "flip" this arrangement, taking the lead on SharePoint internally and using consultants to augment your activities. In addition to your hands-on activities, you will develop the high-level roadmap to ensure a homogeneous and consistent feel as well as flexibility and scalability.

As you come on board you'll take over some projects already under way and a growing queue; we definitely want everyone to have the tools and resources they need, but you'll also need to take a measured approach to defining, prioritizing and organizing projects. At any given time you'll be managing multiple projects of varying size and scope, most of which will center on basic workflow analysis.

In addition to new projects you'll handle support and administration for SharePoint, and coordinate with other areas of IT to ensure integration; for example, we're currently implementing MS Dynamics AX.

Why Clean Energy

Broad impact now and later -- this is not a situation in which you'll undo something that wasn't done well, but one in which you'll make sure it's done right from the beginning. And we've just scratched the surface: once you've built a solid foundation you'll help professionals and departments around the company get the most out of the system.

Diverse projects -- our unique business model means you'll interact with all the functional areas you would expect (Marketing, Sales, Legal, etc.) as well as a variety of unique areas. As a full-solution leader in the natural gas space, Clean Energy's businesses design and construct fueling stations, recover biomethane from solid waste, convert vehicles from gasoline to natural gas, manufacture compressed natural gas equipment, and more. You'll also be involved with external sites for construction and engineering partners, customers and others.

Professional development -- you'll have the opportunity to expand your experience in all stages of projects, along with the option to leverage consultants where it makes most sense. As you can see from the list of technologies under The Requirements, there is plenty to learn. In addition you'll contribute to projects of all sizes; for example, we recently acquired a very large Canadian operation that will need to be integrated into the system.

Proven strong leadership -- you will join a team of accomplished, seasoned professionals at Clean Energy, led by Andrew Littlefair. Mr. Littlefair served as President of Pickens Fuel Corp (PFC), predecessor company of Clean Energy, which he co-founded in 1997 with Boone Pickens and was Staff Assistant to then President Ronald Reagan in the Office of Presidential Advance from 1983 to 1987. Our executive team's profiles can be viewed at CleanEnergyFuels.com.

Solid growth -- Clean Energy has the right solutions at the right time, as more and more organizations are exploring alternative fuel vehicles and solutions. For instance, in 2009 we opened the world's largest public liquid natural gas truck fueling station to serve the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach as well as regional trucking; this facility will help transportation companies comply with the Port of Long Beach's Clean Air Action Plan.

Excellent compensation -- in addition to a competitive salary and incentive bonus program, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes all you would expect plus some pleasant surprises, such as a discretionary match on our 401(k) plan -- in four of the last five years the company has matched 50% of the employee's annual contribution. We also have an onsite fitness center staffed by a personal trainer.

CERF designed and built this biomethane processing plant in Dallas, Texas to extract and process biomethane from organic waste in a landfill.

Keys to Success

Your technical knowledge will be essential, of course, but just as important will be your ability to develop a strong understanding of the various business units / user communities and their needs. Your goal will be to create a cohesive, integrated and highly useful SharePoint environment, and to get there you'll need to be able to help people share information they didn't even know they possessed. You'll also need to keep a sharp eye on the details while also grasping the big picture and how the details fit into it. In addition, in order to be an outstanding SharePoint Developer, you'll bring a solid customer service orientation, the ability to drive user adoption and excellent follow-through habits.
