The Role

General responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Construction, you will be a key player in planning, coordinating and directing all activities in the construction, design and building of both CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) fueling stations, as well other occasional infrastructure projects. While you will be responsible for your projects, you will also serve as a member of a strong team including other Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, a Planning Manager, and a Superintendent.

Day-to-day work
You will support a variety of clients with project budgets ranging from 200K to 5-6MM, with anywhere from 5 to 10 projects running concurrently (of varying scale and at varying phases). Through our experience and expertise, we have built solid processes and tools so you can step in, hit the ground running, and have an immediate impact. However, there is still room for your contributions to improve processes or increase efficiency.

You will be part of the PM team, but will collaborate with engineering teams, external consultants, and contractors for each site build. Indirectly you will also lead teams of superintendents, electricians, and a variety of skilled labor individuals. Since each project is unique, you will be working with different local teams and need to be able to adapt accordingly.

Specific tasks
You will be responsible for managing all stages of a project from proposal and kickoff to final construction. Specifically, this will include the following:
  • Reviewing project proposals, contracts, specifications, project budgets, project information forms and other documentation to ensure all information is available and consistent to successfully execute the project.
  • Scheduling and holding project kick-off meetings with project teams.
  • Coordinating and driving all aspects of projects including obtaining entitlements, permits, business licenses, engineering design and drawing preparation, equipment specification and ordering, station design, utility applications, construction and turnover to operations.
  • Determining any other federal, state and local requirements necessary for construction and coordinating project activities with activities of government regulatory or other governmental agencies.
  • Preparing and providing project status reports and ensuring project documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Scheduling, conducting, and documenting periodic status meetings with the project team.
  • Partnering with Business Development Managers to channel communication with clients on change orders and project status.
  • Managing construction contracts, including preparation of construction bids, bid evaluations, contract preparations, change orders, pay applications, and close out.
  • Coordinating with local utilities including submittal applications, payment of fees and installation of the equipment to ensure timely completion within the project schedule.
  • Managing and updating project schedules, project documentations, project costs, project processes, project scope, project status reports and other project information within the project management software.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely submittal of invoices to customers for station projects being financed by Clean Energy.
  • Inspecting the work in progress, drawings, and specifications to ensure workmanship conforms to contract specifications and adheres to construction schedules.
  • Coordinating with engineering to ensure timely resolution of field discrepancies or clarifications.
  • Interfacing with respective public and regulatory officials, including building inspectors, to ensure proper inspections.
  • Managing and directing an associate project manager to assist in the execution of duties and responsibilities on extremely complex projects.
  • Overseeing inspectors and suppliers to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
  • Demonstrating a strong commitment to safety.
  • Managing construction activities within federal, state, and local environmental rules and regulations to ensure safety and compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulations.
  • Managing the delivery of necessary documentation and notifications to support start up and commissioning, and closing out all punch list items to ensure successful turnover to operations.
  • Traveling to various station sites, and completing site evaluations, assessments, municipal planning and development.
Note: this description is intended to give you a general overview of the position and is not an exhaustive listing of duties and responsibilities.

More Good Reasons

Impact and opportunity
You will find there are plenty of opportunities for growth and expansion as the company continues on its strong growth path. Prove yourself a star in this highly visible role and your efforts won't go unnoticed. We take pride in helping our team members take their careers to the next level, learn new skills and develop professionally.

Autonomy and support
Your supervisor will be there to support you when it comes to questions and plans, but he'll also give you the elbow room to work independently and autonomously as you work from your home office. You bring the skill and experience, and we'll give you the runway to succeed.

Green Standard for Sustainability
You probably already knew that natural gas burns much more cleanly than gasoline and diesel, producing significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions. But did you also know that natural gas is increasingly renewable, using biomethane reclaimed from landfill via waste-to-energy solutions? Clean Energy is helping companies and public organizations meet aggressive environmental goals.

Proven Strong Leadership
You will join a team of accomplished, seasoned professionals at Clean Energy, led by Andrew Littlefair. Mr. Littlefair served as President of Pickens Fuel Corp (PFC), predecessor company of Clean Energy, which he co-founded in 1997 with Boone Pickens and was Staff Assistant to then President Ronald Reagan in the Office of Presidential Advance from 1983 to 1987.

Solid Growth
Clean Energy has the right solutions at the right time, as more and more organizations are exploring alternative fuel vehicles and solutions. For instance, in October 2016 we opened a new state-of-the-art CNG station, in partnership with FedEx, in Oklahoma City. The station that will allow over 100 FedEx Freight Class 8 trucks (big-rigs) to use the convenience of fast-fueling as well as money-saving time-fueling.

Excellent Compensation
In addition to a competitive wage and bonus potential, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental and other insurances, a 401(k) plan with discretionary company match, paid time off and more.

Keys to Success

To excel in this role, you need both the necessary expertise to run large scope projects and also a natural inclination towards fast moving and highly complex environments. You see obstacles as opportunities to stretch your problem solving muscles to meet your deliverables, you're willing to meet complexities head-on, and you don't back down from a challenge.

As a pro in the industry you can take existing processes and translate them to meet differing situations that require consistent outcomes. You view ambiguity as just another opportunity to have an impact on the future. And you enjoy meeting your goals as an independent contributor without a lot of hand-holding.

Though you have a strong history of success and experience to rely upon, you must also be open to learning. Ours is a newer industry and chances are it's one you haven't worked in before. To be successful here, you will need to dedicate yourself to learning the company and the industry in short order.
